WHITE PLAINS – A school secretary in the New Rochelle School District is charged with 49 felony counts related to her theft of money from the district.
Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. said the complaint against Marisol Martell, 36, charges one count of grand larceny as a crime of public corruption, one count of grand larceny, and 47 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, all as felonies.
She allegedly stole over $35,000 from the city school district, in part by taking 45 school district paychecks, each made payable to 15 other staff members. She is also charged with forging the school district athletic director’s name on two false business records in an attempt to cover up her crimes.
At her arraignment on Wednesday, Martell was ordered to surrender all firearms she owns or possesses to the Greenburgh Police Department, the town in which she lives.
Bail was set at $3,500 cash or $7,000 bond.
