Brewster man arrested for assault with knife

TOWN OF SOUTHEAST – A Brewster man has been charged with stabbing
a cabbie repeatedly with a knife on Sunday.

State Police at Brewster arrested Manuel Estabon, 43, on charges of first-degree
assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

At about 2:45 a.m. on February 11, troopers received a call from a taxi
driver that he been assaulted by a customer.

Investigation determined the victim was driving Estabon to the bank to
obtain payment for the taxi services. Before reaching the bank, Estabon
assaulted the driver with a knife stabbing him in the face, neck and hands.
Police said he is in stable condition.

Estabon fled the crime scene, but was located in a nearby wooded area.
He was remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $150,000 cash bail
or $300,000 bond.
