WHITE PLAINS – A Lake Peekskill woman pled guilty to felony grand larceny as public corruption crime for stealing over $10,000 from the Tarrytown Union Free School District where she most recently worked as a secretary at the Sleepy Hollow Middle School.
When sentenced in May, Carol Ressa, 53, faces payment of restitution to the school district and five years of probation.
According to Westchester District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., Ressa
used her position as a public employee to steal the money from the school
district by stealing unauthorized checks drawn from the district bank
account and made payable to herself and by stealing several checks and
money orders that had been provided to the district by middle school students
and their families to pay for various student activities. Those included
class trips, yearbooks and school lunches.
