KINGSTON – Ulster County Sheriff Paul VanBlarcum, A Democrat, Friday,
announced he will seek a fourth four-year term in November.

VanBlarcum has served in the sheriff’s office continuously since
1976, working his way through the ranks.

The county’s top law enforcement official noted his agency is multi-functional.

“Our primary concern on the law enforcement side is drugs and gangs
along with quality of life crimes and DWI’s and things like that,”
he said. “In the operation here we also have the correctional facility.
We have four or five things within the facility that we hope to accomplish
in the next four years.”
Among those initiatives for the law enforcement center is the move the
county’s 911 center from Golden Hill to the Law Enforcement Center,
which also houses the county jail.
