All occupants, including two dogs, got out

NEWBURGH – A two-alarm fire in the basement of 195 Broadway in Newburgh at mid-morning on Friday resulting in damage to the three-story, mixed use building.
Acting Fire Chief Terry Ahlers said residents on the second and third floors evacuated safely with no injuries. Two dogs in the basement and removed to the street where they were given oxygen and survived.
Ahlers said the building was condemned due to several serious building code violations.  The structure sustained fire damage in the basement and minor damage to the floors above.
The cause of the fire appears to be accidental, but is still under investigation, the chief said.
Fire departments called to assist under mutual aid included the Stewart Air Guard and West Point. Goodwill and Vails Gate were on standby.
