Monticello man arrested for stealing running vehicle

MONTICELLO – A man, who ran into a Monticello gas station convenience store for a quick cup of coffee on Sunday morning, learned the hard way not to leave his vehicle running.
Monticello Police said the store employee spotted a man get into the Jeep Compass and take off. The owner ran outside and saw his vehicle traveling southbound on Forestburg Road and turning left onto Breakey Avenue.
Monticello Police were alerted and 10 minutes later the stolen SUV was spotted near the intersection of Forestburg Road and Evergreen Drive. Police stopped it on Broadway.
The driver, Montrell Williams, 31, was charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, both felonies. He was also issued a traffic summons for failure to comply with a police officer.  Williams is in to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
