NEWBURGH – Over 100 residents came out to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the City of Newburgh on Monday, by working side-by-side with Habitat for Humanity on home improvement projects.
Work ranged from demolition, framing, and installing insulation, to painting doors and trim, and helping at the ReStore.
There was also a youth activity building and painting butterfly houses that will be donated to Downing Park Urban Farm.
“I believe that we are building Dr. King’s ‘beloved community’ every week here at Habitat Newburgh,” said Executive Director Cathy Collins. “The barriers that so often divide us naturally fall away on the construction site when we are all working together towards a common goal; offering a hand up to our neighbors and giving local families the opportunity to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through homeownership.”
