Man struck and killed while walking in middle of Hopewell Junction road

EAST FISHKILL – Town Police
in East Fishkill have identified the man who was struck by two vehicles
and killed while walking on Lime Kiln Road in Hopewell Junction.

Police said Rudolph Thompson, 44, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, was walking
around 11:12 p.m. on Thursday, January 11 when he was struck by a truck
tractor that was hauling an empty dump trailer. The truck stopped immediately.

Thompson was hit a second time, moments later by a Ford Focus.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck was a Scottsville, New York man while the driver
of the car was a Carmel man. Neither was injured.

Police said the incident occurred on a four-lane area of Lime Kiln Road
between Shenandoah Road and the Lime Kiln Road Extension, which is a dark
and unlit section of the road.

The investigation is continuing and autopsy results are pending.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call East Fishkill
Police at 845-221-2111.

East Fishkill Police were assisted at the scene by State Police, the East
Fishkill Fire Department and fire police, Mobile Life Support services
paramedics and the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office.
