RHINEBECK – A 77-year-old
Clinton Corners man was killed when his SUV crossed into the opposite
lane of travel on Slate Quarry Road in the Town of Rhinebeck on Wednesday
afternoon and hit a propane truck traveling in the opposite direction.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Francis
Scelta, who was driving a 2014 Honda CRV. The driver of the propane delivery
truck, William Mitchell, 59, of Pawling, was not injured.

Sheriff’s Captain John Watterson said while no propane leaked, a
small amount of diesel fuel leaked from a fuel tank.

Slate Quarry Road near White School House Road was closed for five hours
for investigation and hazmat cleanup.
