TOWN OF WOODBURY – A crash between a tractor-trailer carrying 8,500
gallons of gasoline and a car in the Town of Woodbury early Friday claimed
the life of one person.

State Police said two male occupants were in the Toyota Celica traveling
north on Route 32 in the area of Ridge Road when the car crossed into
the southbound lane and was struck head-on by the fuel tanker.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by the Orange County Medical
Examiner. The driver was transported to Orange Regional Medical Center
in the Town of Wallkill with lower body and internal injuries. The driver
of the tanker suffered minor injuries.

Police are withholding the names of those involved pending notification
of relatives.

As a result of the crash, approximately 50 gallons of diesel fuel was
spilled. The Orange County Haz-Mat team responded to the scene for spill
clean-up. None of the gasoline from the tanker was spilled. The gasoline
was later transferred to another fuel tanker prior to being removed from
the scene.

Investigators were assisted at the scene by the State Police Reconstruction
Unit and the Town of Woodbury Police.

The investigation is continuing.
