O’Donnell: #1 concern is visibility

GOSHEN – Orange County Legislator James O’Donnell is a retired
State Police major, who once was in charge of Troop F on the west side
of the Hudson River. He was also chief of the New York City MTA Police
Department at the time of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
He is proposing a universal phone number to alert police agencies nationwide in the event of suspicious activity.
“Upstate New York the number you are supposed to call is 1-866-NYS-SAFE. In New York City, its 1-888-NYC-SAFE,” O’Donnell said. “Every state, every major municipality probably has its own phone number. It’s too difficult to remember that.”
O’Donnell said the number one concern for police agencies is visibility and he proposed a nationwide phone number of 1-800-FREEDOM or 1-800-LIBERTY as possible ways to call in and report suspicious activity.
