BREWSTER – Two Brewster men were arrested and a large quantity of heroin with a street value of $200,000 was seized following a joint investigation by Putnam County and federal law enforcement authorities into drug trafficking in the area. Police said it was one of the largest drug seizures ever recorded in Putnam County.
Eduardo Paiz-Ortega, 21, and Francisco Sagastume, 18, were arrested last Friday evening.
Paiz-Ortega was arrested later on Friday evening when authorities, armed with a search warrant, went to his apartment. Another kilo of heroin was reportedly found there.
Sagastume was taken into custody after he was pulled over while driving in the Village of Brewster. A search of his vehicle reportedly turned up one kilo of heroin.
Both men were charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance that could be punishable by up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Police said additional charges are expected to be filed.
