GOSHEN – A Bloomingburg man was sentenced in Orange County Court on Tuesday to 12 years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision for having committed a series of residential burglaries. The District Attorney’s Office had recommended to Judge Nicholas DeRosa that Robert Campbell, 27, be sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison.
On March 17, 2017, Campbell pled guilty to burglarizing homes in Chester and Goshen in August 2015.
He was released on $75,000 bond while awaiting sentencing on those cases and then pled guilty to burglary for having stolen property in a home in the Town of Wallkill on August 21.
The sentences for each crime will run concurrently to equal 12 years.
“Residential burglaries are not simply property crimes,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “Residents deserve to feel safe in their homes, and the knowledge that someone has invaded the sanctity of their residence often leaves them unable to feel fully at ease in the space where they should fee most secure.”
Hoovler said anyone who commits a crime while out on bail “deserves severe enhancement punishment.”
