NEWBURGH – A water main break on Lake Drive in the City of Newburgh prompted officials to urge residents to boil tap water before using it or use bottle water. The notice applies to residents of the Belvedere Housing Community.
The water system lost pressure due to the break on Wednesday and when pressure is lost, it increases the chance that untreated water and harmful microbes can enter your water, officials said.
Harmful microbes in drinking water can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms and may pose a special health risk for infants, some elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems.
