GOSHEN – Orange County Government is moving away from exclusively purchasing vehicles. Some are now being leased.
County Executive Steven Neuhaus said the method of acquiring vehicles depends upon what makes the most sense for their use.
“We are leasing a lot of vehicles now, because just like computer equipment, a lot of that stuff gets outdates after three years or you put enough miles on it, so depending upon how the agreement is, sometimes it makes sense to buy, so we do that with our big trucks, but some of the vehicles where we are making house calls with DSS, it has been working out to lease them,” Neuhaus said.
The county is also adding alternative fuel vehicles to its fleet where it is cost effective.
Ulster and Dutchess counties have also introduced hybrid vehicles in their
government fleets.
