TOWN OF WALLKILL – At least two people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries following an incident inside the Wallkill Galleria mall this afternoon.
Wallkill Police Chief Robert Hertmann said there’s no danger to the public, although the shooter is not in custody. Earlier police radio reports said the shooter was no longer “active.”
Hertmann said a man fired one shot from a gun into the floor at American Eagle and two people standing nearby sustained minor lacerations to their lower extremities. They were taken to Orange Regional Medical Center.
A massive state and local police response is reported, from throughout Orange County, along with a Rockland County Sheriff K-9 team.
The mall is on lockdown and cars are not allowed to enter the Galleria property.
Details are still very sketchy, but the shooting was reported by the American Eagle store.
