NEW CITY – Clarkstown Town Supervisor George Hoehmann calls Police Detective Frederick Parent “a true hometown hero.”
Parent died Monday night after a brief illness. He was 52.
Hoehmann said Parent, who was a Clarkstown police officer for 26 years, will be an “immeasurable” loss.
Parent began his career with Clarkstown Police in July 1991 as a dispatcher. He was sworn in as a police officer in July 1996 and was promoted in May 2005 as a detective in the Juvenile Aid Bureau.  As a detective, he became an expert in solving fraud and credit card crimes.
Parent was also a lifelong member of the Nanuet Fire Department, rising through the ranks to chief in 2000.
