What a difference 87 miles make. Rockland County may have
gotten a flurry or two in recent days but in the Town of Rockland
in Sullivan County, they have already had a snow covering.

NEW CITY – Highway and road crews from across Rockland County attended
a two-day “snow school” to prepare for the winter weather.

Road crews were given refresher courses about snow-removal techniques,
safety, equipment maintenance and other issues.

“These crews will be ready no matter what comes our way this winter,”
said County Executive Edwin Day, who observed the glass in the county
highway garage.

The two-day session was organized by county Highway Superintendent Charles
“Skip” Vezzetti. “We start preparing for winter in September,”
he said. “We have never had to close Rockland County roads due to
snow and we want it to stay that way.”

Rockland has 30 snow removal trucks that travel 24 routes and clear 170
center line miles of county roads.
