CORTLANDT – State Police continue to investigate the murder of a 15-year-old girl whose body was found bound with rope inside a red sleeping bag at the bottom of a 60-foot drop near Camp Smith off Bear Mountain Road in Cortlandt.
In March 1970, a boy walking in the woods discovered the remains of Alice Lezan of Franklin Township, New Jersey. He told his parents, who did not believe him. The boy returned with friends on November 15, 1970. The boy’s parents contacted the State Police and troopers found the body on November 15. She was identified through dental records.
Lezan was last seen on September 26, 1969 near a hotel on West 48th Street in New York City. She was wearing gray and white pants with a purple shirt, and was with a man believed to have tried to lure her into prostitution. Early in the investigation, other prostitutes told police the man stated Alice went home. It is not believed she was ever a prostitute.
State Police continue to ask for the public’s assistance to solve this murder. Anyone with information is asked to call them at 845-677-7300.
