POUGHKEEPSIE – The Coast Guard will conduct two days of closed door workshops in the City of Poughkeepsie this week as part of its Hudson River Ports and Waterways Safety Assessment (PAWSA) process.
The study comes following the agency’s rejection of a plan to allow 43 new oil barge anchorages on the Hudson between Yonkers and Kingston.
The PAWSA process is a “disciplined approach” to identify major waterway safety hazards, estimate risk levels, and evaluate potential mitigation measures.
A group of waterway users and stakeholders will conduct the two-day structured workshop on Tuesday and Wednesday to meet workshop objectives and ensure the PAWSA process in a joint effort involving waterway users, stakeholders and agencies to determine the safety of the waterway.
