BEACON – A man, who tried
to hold up a barbershop in the City of Beacon, was arrested with the assistance
of an off-duty Green Haven prison corrections officer.

On Friday, October 27, at around 12:47 a.m., Beacon Police received a
call of several people fighting in the roadway on Main Street.

Investigation determined a man had entered a Main Street barbershop while
brandishing a gun and threatened to shoot the employees and customers
inside.

The man, later identified as Kyle-Ray Stuyvesant, who is homeless, fled
from the business. That’s when Corrections Officer Jason Grasso
saw the disturbance and a chase after the suspect by employees shouting
that he had a gun and had just tried to rob the shop.

Grasso stepped into the road as the group was approaching and engaged
the suspect, telling him he was an off-duty peace officer and to show
him his hands. Stuyvesant refused and Grasso drew his personal firearm.
He again ordered Stuyvesant to show his hands at which time he complied.

Grasso ordered the suspect to the ground and held him until police arrived
and took him into custody.

Stuyvesant was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal
use of a firearm, both as felonies, and a misdemeanor of menacing.
He was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail
or $100,000 bond.
Police said additional charges are pending.
