MID-HUDSON – The heavy rains that placed portions of Livingston
Manor under water overnight forcing evacuations are receding. Schools
were closed as a result of the flooding that had shopkeepers mopping out
stores this morning.
In other areas, electricity was knocked out because of downed power lines.
The lights were out in NYSEG’s Carmel territory from 10 p.m. Sunday
until about 12:40 p.m. Monday. Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell
closed the County Office Building in downtown Carmel because of the outage.
Utility officials said some 32,000 customers in the Mid-Hudson Valley
and Southern Tier were without power late this morning as crews work to
restore service.
Orange and Rockland Utilities reported that as of mid-morning on Monday,
some 4,700 customers remained without power, mostly in the Montebello,
Ramapo and Wurtsboro areas. Another 9,400 customers had their service
restored.
