WHITE PLAINS – The Westchester County Department of Health is recommending that persons who ate or drank at bartaco, a restaurant in Port Chester between October 12 and 23 receive preventive treatment against Hepatitis A, a viral illness that affects the liver.
The health department learned on Wednesday that an employee with the illness worked at the restaurant while infectious.
Preventive treatment is only effective if given within two weeks of exposure, health officials said. That means those who dined on October 12 need to receive that treatment by today, October 26. Those who dined on the 13th through the 23rd need to receive preventive treatment within two weeks of their exposure.
The health department will offer free preventive treatment at the County Center in White Plains for people who ate or drank at bartaco in Port Chester during that time period. Anyone with a prior history of Hepatitis A vaccination or Hepatitis A infection does not need to be treated.
The health department is offering the treatment on the following dates:

Thursday, October 26 from 4 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
Friday, October 27 from 12 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Saturday, October 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to provide consent. Advanced registration for the county clinic is highly recommended, officials said. To register, log onto www.health.ny.gov/gotoclinic/60 . Those without Internet access or needs more information may call 211 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Restaurant patrons with exposure can also be treated by their family health care provider.
