CARMEL – People of all ages learned the ‘do’s and don’ts’
of fire safety Sunday when the Carmel Fire Department conducted its annual
open house.

Members of emergency services units on the state, county and local level
provided safety tips to those in attendance.

A call was also made for volunteers to step forward and join their local
fire department or ambulance corps.

David Jacobsen, captain of the Carmel Volunteer Ambulance Corps, reported
a shortage of volunteers throughout the county.

“Men and women are needed for various shifts around the clock. Training
is provided free. A retirement incentive now exists for emergency services
personnel and you can even receive a credit on your New York State income
tax,” he said.

Jacobsen suggested interested persons contact their local fire department
or ambulance corps for particular details.
