MILLERTON – Assemblywoman Didi Barrett (D, Hudson) is urging state officials to consider the ecological health of Rudd Pond and the renovation of an aging bathhouse at the pond site as central issues for the redevelopment of Taconic State Park.
Barrett said that Rudd Pond is an extraordinary asset for the eastern part of Dutchess and Columbia counties, but that the current state of the pond, overgrown with underwater weeds, has limited economic and tourism potential and attention to it should be a top priority of the master plan for the park.
“Among the most important improvements to the park will be the
redevelopment of Rudd Pond,” Barrett said. “No less important
is the acquisition of an aquatic weed harvester to keep the pond in good
condition for swimming and kayaking.”
