DO NOT TOUCH!

EAST FISHKILL – Hickory tussock moth caterpillars have been spotted in Dutchess County and they have been seen in East Fishkill. Town officials said if you see one of those fuzzy white caterpillars with a black chain-like marking, don’t touch it.
It can cause allergic reactions such as a skin irritation and in some cases, more severe reactions that could cause nausea and swelling, officials said.
The species originates in Canada and feeds on the leaves of hickory, walnut, ash, elm, and oak trees from June through September.
Town officials said parents should tell their children not to pick them up.
