AMENIA – An Amenia woman is charged with forging and cashing checks belonging to the business where she worked.
State Police said Abigail Murphy, 26, was charged with nine counts of forgery, grand larceny and nine counts of falsifying business records, all as felonies.
Wes’ Autobody on Route 44 in the Town of Washington had reported fraudulent activity to troopers on September 16. An investigation found Murphy had created nine fraudulent checks and forged the owner’s signature.  She then cashed the checks at the Bank of Millbrook totaling $7,500. The bank aided the police throughout the investigation and provided photographic evidence of Murphy cashing the checks.
Murphy was sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond pending a future court appearance.
