Two Newburgh primary races won by single digits; canvas changes one outcome

GOSHEN – The Democratic candidate for the Orange County Legislature’s 4th District in the City of Newburgh has been decided by five votes. Omari Shakur, who was the primary night winner, has officially lost the line to Kevindaryn Lujan. The Orange County Board of Elections on Tuesday counted all absentee ballots resulting in a 303 to 298 win for Lujan.
That seat is currently held by Democrat Curley Dillard, who is retiring.
In Newburgh’s 4th Ward City Council race, incumbent Cindy Holmes lost to Patty Sofokles on the Democratic line. Holmes had 142 votes to Sofokles’ 148.
