STEWART AIRPORT – The UN General Assembly is in New York City for its
fall session and that means that dozens of airplanes owned by foreign
governments are now parked at Stewart Airport.

It has been an annual occurrence at the Newburgh area airport as the tarmac
up and down past the passenger terminal is lined with jets with markings
from countries from all parts of the world.

Stewart Manager Ed Harrison said the aircraft parking lot takes the
heat off the larger Port Authority airports.

“In our busy airports like Kennedy and Newark where space is limited,
it is becoming more apparent that this is the airport of choice to grow
the region, to grow the New York metropolitan area, for international
and domestic traffic,” he said. “A lot of UN folks, countries
all over the world, are looking to us to park their aircraft here this
week, but also when they come into town, they are using us more often
as well.”
Aside from making Stewart more well-known to other nations, the UN planes
this week translate into additional dollars in landing and parking fees
and refueling.
