BREWSTER – Members of the Brewster High School Girls’ Varsity Tennis Team played their hearts out on a warm Sunday to raise funds for the Brewster Fire Department.
Putnam County’s busiest EMS agency has initiated a campaign to raise $30,000 allowing the volunteer department to purchase mechanical CPR machines.
“We all know that research and technology have made some amazing improvements in health care and quality of life,” said Chief Phil McMurray.  “Such technology comes at a cost. Mechanical CPR devices are a new technology that aid EMS providers responding to patients in cardiac arrest.”
The chief noted the new technology increases the “return of spontaneous circulation in a non-hospital setting providing for consistent, uninterrupted, high quality CPR as long as the technique is needed.”
Daria Pascale, coach of the tennis team, said her girls were committed to raise $1,000 allowing the department to purchase its new equipment.
“Today’s fundraiser is a good start for a good cause,” Pascale said as $5, $10 and $20 bills along with loose change were dropped into a large jug. By the end of the afternoon, $1,019 had been collected.
