GOSHEN – It has been 16 years since terrorists flew two commercial airplanes into the World Trade Center killing 3,000 people. A third plane crashed into the Pentagon and still another crashed in a field in Pennsylvania when the passengers overtook and fought with terrorists onboard.
The years tick on, but for everyone – whether you are personally impacted with the loss of a loved one or friend, or still have those images of the Twin Towers collapsing burned into your psyche – the pain is still there.
Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus reflects on the day.
“In Orange County, we lost 43 people, many of them firefighters,” the county executive recalled. “The 9/11 coming around to us on Monday is very raw to us, though. I know people who lost loved ones that haven’t recovered and I don’t know if you can recover from something like that.”
Neuhaus was so touched by the attacks that he joined the Naval Reserves and still serves today.
