STEWART AIR GUARD BASE – Sailor Corey Ingram came home on Saturday. The sailor was among 10 who were killed when the ship to which they were assigned, the USS John McCain, collided with a tanker near Singapore on August 21.
Ingram’s body was flown from Dover Air Force Base to the Stewart Air National Guard Base in the Town of Newburgh on Saturday where a private memorial service was held for family and service members.
Hundreds gathered along Route 17K outside the guard base as two fire trucks hoisted a large American flag over the roadway.
Ingram, 28, was promoted posthumously from Petty Officer 1st Class to Information Systems Technician 1st Class.
Visitation will be held today from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the VFW Post 170 Vail-Wolff McKenna-Frye Post at 1 Violet Avenue in Poughkeepsie. There will be a one-hour visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and funeral services with full military honors on Tuesday, September 12 at 11 a.m. at the Mid-Hudson Civil Center in Poughkeepsie.
Burial will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
