ALBANY – Special New York license plates will soon carry the phrase “Healthy mind, healthy New York” now that legislation sponsored by Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther (D, Forestburg) was signed by the governor.
Gunther, who is chairwoman of the Assembly Mental Health Committee, created the special plate to help support the cause of mental health and anti-stigma efforts.
New Yorkers will be able to order the plate for a $25 annual fee with all proceeds benefitting the Mental Illness Anti-Stigma Fund.
“We don’t feel shame when we have a cold or a broken bone, so why would mental illness be any different?” Gunther said. “It’s time we started conversations about how to help each other, and these specialty license plates are a good place to start.”
