LIBERTY – The man, who was struck as he walked along Old Route
17 in Livingston Manor on Monday night, has died and State Police announced
the arrest of a motorist on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident
resulting in death as a felony.

Police said Gemeal Wallace, Sr., 30, and his 14-year-old son were walking
along the road when a pickup truck struck both of them. The vehicle took
off.

Wallace was transported to Westchester Medical Center where he later died
from his injuries. His son suffered only minor injuries.

An investigation into the incident identified Ray Salonich as the driver
of a 2004 Chevrolet pickup that had struck the two pedestrians. Salonich
was arrested on Tuesday and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without
bail.

The investigation is continuing and anyone who may have information is
asked to call investigators at 845-292-6600. Calls can be kept confidential.
