TOWN OF WALLKILL –Automated external defibrillators (AEDs ), save lives and Orange Regional Medical Center has come to the rescue of Wallkill Town Police, who needed a couple of new devices.
Officials of the Wallkill-based hospital presented the department with two new machines, costing $1,000 each, on Wednesday.
Hospital President Scott Batulis said the healthcare facility and town police have an excellent working relationship.
“We service as many as 400 patients a day in the hospital, over 70,000 patients a year in the emergency department so there are many, many times where we rely on the police to support our hospital and support our community,” Batulis said. “As far as the lifesaving devices, we are so proud to have the resources to be able to help the police department and give the police the tools they need to save lives when they are doing their duty in the community.”
Police Chief Robert Hertman said the department has five AEDs, two of which needed replacement. The hospital has been involved in donated some of the devices since the Wallkill Police began using them in 2004.
