ELLENVILLE – Police in Ellenville have charged a local woman with
stealing some $5,000 from 10 disabled adult residents at the Ulster Greene
ARC residence at 34 Market Street in Ellenville.

The investigation that led to the arrest of Catherine Oneill, 61, of Wurtsboro
began after the administration of the Ulster Greene ARC conducted an audit
that revealed in consistencies in several in-house financial accounts
of their disabled adult residents.

Oneill, who worked at ARC, was in charge of all of the financial accounts
of the disabled residents. It is alleged that at varying times from January
2017 to June 30, 2017, she would have each of the disabled adults to sign
a withdrawal slip for amounts that were greater than what the needs of
the adult were at the time, and then steal the difference.

Police Chief Phillip Mattracion said the two banks upon which the checks
were drawn, and their employees, followed all of their protocols and did
nothing wrong with regard to the stolen funds.

Oneill was asked to come to village police for questioning and confessed.

She was remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $2,000 cash or $4,000
bond.

Oneill was formally charged with grand larceny, scheme to defraud and
falsifying business records, all as felonies.
