NEW CITY – A TOR bus heading west on Route 59 at Smith Street in Nanuet early Wednesday afternoon began smoking from the engine compartment. Rockland County officials took cautionary action.
County Executive Edwin Day said there were no sign of fire or melting of any part of the bus. The Nanuet Fire Department responded and determined it was a non-event and left. The sheriff’s department responded as well.
All 20 passengers got off the bus on their own and were put on another bus traveling the same route.  There were no reported injuries.
Day directed Brega Transport, which operates the TOR buses for the county, to immediately report the incident to the Public Transportation Safety Board.
The bus was towed to the Brega facility and the county sent staff to Brega to review records including maintenance and repair.
