MID-HUDSON – National Night Out, the evening dedicated to police-community
relations, was by all accounts successfully held across the Mid-Hudson
Tuesday.
In Newburgh, police had five locations set up around the city where they offered free barbequed hotdogs to residents while they mingled together.
In the Town of Wallkill, attendance increases each year. Town and State
Police participated and food and activities were available at the event
at the town’s Little League complex.
Wallkill Police Chief Robert Hertman is pleased with the annual outcome of the event.
“We are trying to send a message that this police department works together with our community to address concerns that the community has,” he said. “This year in particular we are facing significant headwinds dealing with opioid abuse, especially heroin, in our community. It is occurring throughout the United States.”
Other Night Out activities were held in the cities of Middletown. Peekskill and Poughkeepsie
