GOSHEN – A Newburgh man pled guilty in Orange County Court on Thursday to manslaughter in connection with the August 1, 2016 killing of a Newburgh city man. When sentenced in September, Devin Isaac is expected to be sentenced to 18 years in state prison.
Isaac, 18, who was 17 at the time of the killing, shot Deandric Little, 29, to death at the corner of South and Chambers street.
“It was just another case of senseless street violence in the City of Newburgh,” said District Attorney David Hoovler.
Just before the murder, the victim and another man argued with Isaac nearby. At the end of the argument, the third man told Isaac to shoot Little and he pulled the trigger, hitting the victim in the torso. Another person drove Little to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital where he walked in on his own, but later died.
After the shooting, Isaac fled the area, but was captured three weeks later on Staten Island where he was in possession of another gun. The gun used in the Newburgh homicide was never recovered.
He was also arrested on Staten Island for possessing a loaded gun. When sentenced on that charge, it will run consecutively to the Orange County sentence.
