Motorcyclist killed in crash with tractor-trailer

CANAAN – A 36-year-old
Columbia County man was killed Thursday night when a tractor-trailer driver
failed to yield the right of way and struck the motorcycle the victim
was operating.

State Police said the 8:31 p.m. crash occurred on State Route 22 in Canaan
when Mark Shaw was operating a 1983 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound.
The truck, driven by Wayne Quick, 46, of Rochester, was making a left
turn into the Loves Travel Plaza from Route 22 northbound when he failed
to yield the right of way and collided with the motorcycle.

Shaw was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash was reconstructed by the State Police Collision Reconstruction
Unit. Also at the scene were members of the State Police Commercial Vehicle
Enforcement Unit, State Police at Livingston Bureau of Criminal Investigation,
Canaan Fire Department and the Chatham Rescue Square.

The incident remains under investigation and no tickets have been issued.
