Ellenville woman charged with assault by vehicle

ELLENVILLE – An Ellenville woman is under arrest after she allegedly drove her vehicle onto a sidewalk and struck another woman with whom she had argued moments before. It is alleged she then backed up the car in an attempt to run over the victim. She struck a parked vehicle instead.
The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday on Market Street in Ellenville.
The victim was transported to Ellenville Regional Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
The driver, Jenah Hammel, 18, of Ellenville, fled the scene, but turned herself in a short time later.  Hammel was charged with felony assault, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and endangering the welfare of a child.
A male passenger fled the car, but was apprehended by Ellenville Police 10 minutes later.  Shaquon McGinnis, 19, of Ellenville, was charged with criminal contempt and criminal contempt as an aggravated family offense, both as felonies.
Both Hammel and McGinnis were sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. As McGinnis was being led out of the police station by a sheriff’s office sergeant, a struggle ensured during which one of the Ellenville officer’s personal vehicles was minimally damage.
McGinnis sustained minor facial lacerations and was treated at Ellenville Hospital.
