ALBANY – Greene County saw a 5.6 percent increase in jobs during the 12-month period ending in June. That growth is second highest in the state; only Seneca County saw more growth with a 16.9 percent increase.
Greene County Community Development Specialist Carl Heck said the county has been experiencing an influx of new businesses and residents.
“Both from across the river in Columbia County and Dutchess County and downstate,” Heck said. “I am sure both of those contribute to the employment, though it has been a little rainy summer, tourism is up as well. Greene County sales tax has been significant higher in 2017 than in 2016 and the employment growth is coming with it.”.
Sullivan County also saw growth in jobs, at 2.9 percent.
The Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area had a 1.8 percent increases in employment, while Columbia County jobs grew by 1.7 percent, Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division employment rose by 1.6 percent, and Ulster County jobs grew by 1.4 percent.
Private sector jobs in the Hudson Valley grew in June by 14,000 or 1.8 percent, to 808,600.
Jobs were added in education and health services; professional and business services; trade, transportation and utilities; leisure and hospitality; and other services. Job losses were centered in manufacturing and information.
