GOSHEN – Orange County’s fund balance rose by $3.75 million in 2016 bringing the total to $43.7 million. That according to a review of the county’s finances by independent auditor O’Connor Davies.
The county legislature’s Ways and Means Committee was briefed on the financials on Monday.
Chairman Leigh Benton said the increased revenues are a result of belt-tightening and other factors.
“It is management practices of the last three years of looking everywhere we can to increase revenues and by working better on collections as well as penny-pinching every day and every budget line and trying to save money on our expenditures every day with better management,” he said.
Benton said revenues are also up because of increased property values, collections of past due taxes, an increase in tobacco settlement funds and the first installment of casino money.
