HIGHLAND – Plans continue to develop a deep water port on the Hudson River at Highland and a $375,000 grant secured by Assemblyman Frank Skartados (D, Milton) is helping to pay for the work.
Skartados said in the end, the waterfront project at Shephard Park, will be part of the “Walkway experience;” the Walkway Over the Hudson connects Poughkeepsie with the hamlet of Highland in the Town of Lloyd.
“The Highland port has played a major role in the history of that town and supply New York City with raw materials as well as agricultural products,” he said. “It is a deep port and we would like to take advantage of that deep water now for the purpose of tourism and other leisure activities.”
Skartados said there will have to be outreach to let the world know of what the park has to offer.
