MIDDLETOWN – Both the Middletown and Newburgh campuses of SUNY Orange are going to offer charging stations for electric vehicles thanks to a state grant.
The facility at the Middletown campus will cost $15,200 and provide two
charging ports.  The Newburgh campus facility, to be located at the
Kaplan Hall garage, will accommodate four charging stations. That unit
will cost $16,000.
College spokesman Michael Albright said the facilities will be in keeping with the school’s sustainability program.
“We have done a lot of different things to improve, not only the environmental footprint of the college, but to try to work with students and employees to work for ride sharing and other things that reduce the carbon footprint and emissions from vehicles, so this ties in with that and we are hoping that our students and visitors find them very helpful,” Albright said.
The charging stations will be metered with a yet to be determined fee for their use.
Albright said they should be operational by this fall.
