NANUET – State Senator
David Carlucci (D, Nanuet) asked the state Department of Transportation
to expedite changes to Route 59 in Rockland County, which were originally
slated to start next summer.
The senator’s call comes following a recent incident in which a
motorist drove onto the shoulder of the road in Monsey and struck a mother
and three children. That, said Carlucci, “demonstrated the urgency
for improvements the state has already committed to.”
State plans for the roadway include 3,000 feet of new sidewalks, some of which will be located near the recent accident; improvements to existing sidewalks; curb cuts for strollers and wheelchairs; and synchronization of 42 streetlights from Suffern to Nyack, which will be adaptive to traffic conditions and help reduce congestion.
