WHITE PLAINS – A guilty plea has come in an apparently unprovoked stabbing that left a man dead last October.
Donte Pace, 22, of 240 Franklin Avenue, Mount Vernon, pled guilty last Friday, to one count of manslaughter in the first degree, in the death of James Puryear.
On October 18, 2016 at approximately 4:45 p.m., Puryear, 24, was walking east on Elm Street between Oak Street and Walnut Street. Pace approached and stabbed the victim once in the chest with a bladed instrument.
Puryear, who was unarmed, ran away from the defendant and across the street where he collapsed. A good Samaritan called 911.  The victim later was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
An intensive investigation by the Yonkers Police Department resulted in Pace’s arrest ten days later.
Police have not revealed what they believe may have provoked the attack
Pace will be sentenced on October 4, 2017.  He faces up to 25 years in state prison.
