Newburgh man charged in Wappinger Burglary and stabbing

WAPPINGER –A Newburgh man is in the Dutchess County Jail charged
in connection with a residential break-in and the stabbing of two people.

Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Kwame McDermott, 23,
on Monday, June 26 following an investigation into the Saturday morning
assault.

McDermott is alleged to have broken into a residence at 2 Kent Road in
the Town of Wappinger and stabbed the two victims with a large knife during
a dispute. One of the victims was known to the assailant and the incident
is not considered to be random, said Capt. John Watterson.

The two victims were transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie
for treatment and are expected to survive.

McDermott was charged with felony burglary and assault. The investigation
is continuing and anyone with information about the incident is asked
