BUCHANAN – The Indian
Point Unit 2 nuclear power plant in Buchanan was shut down on Monday afternoon
following an issue with the speed control system on one of the unit’s
two main feedwater pumps.

Those pumps are located on the non-nuclear side of the plant and distribute
water to the plant’s four steam generators to be reheated in order
to make the steam required to generate electricity.

Entergy officials say there was no release of radioactivity and no threat
to the safety of workers or the public. They said the plant equipment
operated as designed in response to the shutdown.
Unit 3 is operating at full power and was returned to serve on June
22 following maintenance to replace seals that sit between the reactor
vessel and vessel lid.
