MIDDLETOWN – The proposed parking deck near the Paramount Theater was a casualty in the $10 million Middletown downtown revitalization plan approved by the state.
The plan developed locally, required final approval from Albany. In Middletown’s case, the wish list exceeded the grant allotment and the parking deck was cut from the plan.
Despite that, Mayor Joseph DeStefano is optimistic about securing money for it later on.
“It’s still in the plan,” the mayor said. “I am confident after we implement phase one that we will be eligible for additional funding in the future once we can develop more of a need.”
The plan does include redeveloping the former Woodworth building into a mini-shopping corridor as well as a connection to the Heritage Trail, along with façade improvements and other amenities downtown.
